Pre-conference tour to Waterway Cross Magdeburg

The center of the waterway cross is Europe's longest canal bridge, the Magdeburg Water Bridge. The navigable aqueduct is located near Magdeburg. It leads the Mittelland Canal across the river Elbe and has a lenghts of 918 metres. It consists of the 228 m long river bridge and the 690 m long foreland bridge, designed as a flood bridge for the flood discharge of the Elbe.
The bridge allows large commercial ships to pass between the Rhineland and Berlin without having to descend into and then climb out of the Elbe itself.
